It is October, and we are busily preparing for the popular Holiday Gift Boutique to be held in November. We accept donations of new items which we sell, which bring holiday shopping right to the OutPatient Lobby of the hospital.  This is the perfect time to re-gift those items you received and tucked away, just because.

As the year draws to a close, we are also planning the Annual Installation next year’s officers. We are proudly entering our 53rd year. The installation ceremony will be held at our December meeting.

In case there is someone who doesn’t know what Holly Twig is all about, Holly Twig is a group that raises money to purchase items which allows the patients to have an improved quality stay while at Community Medical Center. Each department has an opportunity to submit a wish that they would like granted, which is not covered by the general operating budget. Some of the items we have contributed to the purchase of in the past have been vein finders, special reclining chairs that can be used for patients to rest in and also be transported in, warming blankets, as well as special chairs needed in one of the departments.

All of our members are volunteers who are part of a dedicated group who donate time and energy to a cause we are passionate about. This group is not for everyone; but for those who share our commitment, it is the most rewarding experience of a lifetime.

October 22, 2024, is Boscov’s annual Friends Helping Friends event. We are selling the Coupon which can be used in the store and online for the entire day. For most departments there is 20% off. The Coupon price is a $5 donation. This is a great time to do holiday shopping.

The Holiday Twig $500 Visa Gift Card raffle tickets are available now. Please see a member to purchase your tickets.
  • The following are the vendor sales remaining for this calendar year:
  • Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 16th & Oct. 17th – Tupperware
  • Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 5th & Nov. 6th – J&M Memorabilia
  • Wednesday, Nov. 20th – Holly Twig Holiday Gift Boutique, Bake Sale and Visa Gift Card Raffle drawing.
  • Thursday and Friday, Dec. 5th & Dec. 6th – Handbag Sale

We are excited to see the progress of the new parking garage. It is looking great! Be sure to look in that direction when you are visiting. Free Valet Parking is still available at the main entrance.

Your donations of new baby weight yarn in light colors make it possible for our Holly Twig members, who knit and crochet, to make caps for the oncology department and the newborn babies to wear home. All of our hats are made by Holly Twig members, and we use approved patterns.

Our next meeting is Wednesday, October 9th, at 9:15 a.m.

The Veterans Committee has made a major decision to change our name and status to Holiday City Berkeley Veterans and Friends, which was in existence in HCB since 2012.  This change was made after much discussion because we want to be able to raise money to honor, assist and advocate for Veterans in our community.  We would like to thank our Board of Directors for agreeing to our decision and supporting our efforts.

We meet every Thursday at 1:00 P.M. in Clubhouse 1. Please note, however, our club does not meet in July or August.

We hope everyone had a wonderful Summer—it was a hot one! The Recreation Committee is deeply grateful for your unwavering support of our events. We love planning activities that appeal to many residents, and your support makes it all possible.

We thank everyone who came out and enjoyed The Recreation Committee & GoGetters Poolside Concerts and Pizza/Ice Cream Parties with Joe Leo and Heart & Soul! Our two groups look forward to closing our series with a concert by the Strictly 60's Band on September 12.

As Recreation Committee Chair, I arranged for the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission Mobile Unit to provide Real ID appointments on July 1, August 16, and August 29th.  It has been great fun meeting so many residents while assisting them in getting appointments!  I am working hard to get them back through the fall!

As cooler weather approaches, we have some even cooler activities planned! We can't wait to share more details about our ScareCrow Decorating Contest, One Woman Show 'Crying on the Camino', Sentimental Cruisers Car Show, Time to Reminisce Mixer and a trip to the Shore Club for the Bruce Springsteen Tribute. Our monthly craft and game nights will start back up, so keep your eyes open for more information!

For those interested in joining the Recreation Committee Cooking/Baking Club, we will meet on Monday, September 9, at 5:30 in Clubhouse 2.  If you cannot attend but need more info, please contact me or Jean McLaughlin at cookinghcb@gmail.com.  The Recreation Book Club will meet with a slight change to their September Schedule.  The evening meeting will be held on September 10 at 6:00, and the daytime meeting will still be held on September 12 at 11:00.  The Club is currently reading The House on the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune.  For more information regarding the book club, please reach out to Mary & Linda at hcbbookclub@gmail.com
Shareowners interested in joining the Recreation Committee and those already on the committee are asked to attend our next meeting in Clubhouse 2 on Monday, August 26, at 5:00 pm.  Please plan to stay and join us for Pictionary!

Finally, the Recreation Committee will advertise a Neighborhood-Wide Garage Sale on Saturday, September 28. It is each homeowner's responsibility to obtain the permit. Renters must get the property owner's permission to obtain a permit. Berkeley Township will provide one Free permit per year. We will be putting the permit forms in the Library so that you can complete them and return them to the Berkeley Township Clerk's Office.
As always, please email me with questions, suggestions, or concerns!  pattyrechcb@gmail.com
