Just a note to welcome all back to our first meeting on Thursday, September 8th at 1:00 PM. Hope all had a good summer.

 

Our next meeting is Wednesday, October 12th. Holly Twig meets the second Wednesday of the month at 9:30 a.m. in the H.C. Berkeley Clubhouse #2 - upper clubhouse.  Being part of this group doesn’t take very much time, and is very rewarding.  Refreshments are served, there is a brief business meeting and we have a program. If you have been thinking about joining, please put the date on your calendar and come. 
Our Mission is to raise money to purchase comfort items for the patients of RWJ Barnabas Health/Community Medical Center. 100% of the profit of our fundraising goes into those items that are selected from a Wish List that is made up from various departments.  In the past, we have contributed such items as warming blankets, reclining chairs and televisions for the patients, just to name a few.    
Here is what’s coming up:

Sales are from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Outpatient Lobby and parking is free.
Personalized Letter from Santa to your special child is returning. Flyers with information will be available, or call for more information.
We continue to accept donations of new items that we resell and donations of yarn. We are always making baby hats for the newborns to wear home.

Autumn is arriving and with that is cooler weather.  Attendance for Casual Bocce is expected to grow but there is still plenty of room for new members.
Bocce (or “Lawn Bowling” as it’s sometimes referred to), is an easy sport to learn and everyone is encouraged to join us.  Only requirements are wearing closed toe sneakers or shoes.  
Games are Monday and Tuesday mornings from 10:00-Noon.  Reservations are required.  You will choose a day you want to play (either Monday and/or Tuesday) and you will be on the schedule for the rest of the season.
Casual Bocce has no set teams.  There are no measuring of the balls.  No paddles.  Strictly fun amongst friends.
And for the first time ever, in October, we will be holding the first annual “Tournament Of Champions” to see who the best Bocce player in the group is.  Stay tuned in October for more details.

To Our Former and New Bunco Players
We start our new season of bunco this month of Sept. Yes, we are back to have GOOD Fun and Surprises along the way. So, mark your calendar for September 20, 2022. Staff will be calling former Bunco members ahead of time.
Bunco is the third Tuesday of each month. It’s in Clubhouse 2 up on the hill. Doors open at 12:00 this September to sign up. The game starts at 1:00 P.M. to 3:30P.M.
New member, if you haven’t played Bunco have no fear, the staff will be happy to show you the game.
Masks are not required, it is your option, anddo what feels comfortable for you.
Our Clubhouse #2, the Auditorium, is larger so we are able to space the tables. The Bunco Staff and Maintenance personnel are working to create additional space between tables; there are hand sanitizers on each table for your convenience.

Do you sing in the shower?  
Do you sing in the car?
Do you sing on the phone when those spam callers bother you?
If so, you’re exactly what we’re looking for!
The Melodiers are a musical group where everyone is encourage to join.  NO formal training is needed.  NO Auditions are ever given!  The only requirement is the love for music and the desire to sing.  EVERYONE is welcome to join as long as you live in the Holiday City Communities.
Our next show will be the first Sunday of December, and it will be our annual Holiday Concert.  Our last one was a phenomenal success, followed by our Spring concert a few months ago.  We, the Melodiers, are excited to present our next repertoire to the public.  
If you would like to join, rehearsals are every Wednesday from 4:00-6:00PM in Clubhouse 2 in the Main Hall.  Stop by and give a listen!

The Variety/Drama Club is currently in rehearsals with the original musical revue “Those Were The Days.”  Tickets are $7.00 and are available at Clubhouse 1 on the first and third Tuesdays of the month.  Performances will be Saturday, October 15th at 7:30PM and Sunday October 16th at 2:00PM.
New members are welcome to stop by and observe.  We meet up every Tuesday from 6:00-9:00PM at Clubhouse 2 in the main hall.  Come see what we’re all about!

Post 8352 members are welcome to transfer into our post.The next meeting of Silver/Holiday V.F.W. Post 10185 will be held on Thursday, September 1st  at 1:00 pm at Silver Ridge Park West Clubhouse, 145 Westbrook Drive, Silver Ridge West. We hold our meetings on the first Thursday of every month. We meet in the daytime, so you do not have to drive at night. To join our post, just bring a copy of your Discharge (DD-214) to our meeting and you will be signed up right away. You'll receive a hardy welcome and refreshments before the meeting. You will also have a chance to talk with fellow Veterans and make new friends. Anyone needing transportation to our meetings can call Past Commander James Egan at 732-341-4905 or one of the other officers, and we will gladly pick you up and take you back home after the meeting.
Friday, September 2nd is VJ Day, This is the 77th Anniversary of the Japanese Surrendering to U.S. General Douglas MacArthur and General Jonathan Wainright. General Wainright was being honored at the ceremony because he was a former P.O.W. Held by the Japanese Army and a survivor of the infamous “Bataan Death March”. This historic event took place aboard the Battleship Missouri, anchored in Tokyo Harbor, ending W.W II on September 2nd, 1945.
Monday, September 5th  is Labor Day. 
Sunday, September 11th is Patriot Day.
Friday, September 16th, is National POW/MIA Recognition Day.
Thudsday, September 22nd  is the first day of autumn.
Sunday, September 25th is Gold Star Mother's Day. Rosh Hashanah begins at Sunset and ends Tuesday at Sunset.
On Tuesday, September 27th at 7:00 pm V.F.W. Post 10185's Commander Thomas Kraszewski and his staff will attend V.F.W. District 12's meeting at V.F.W. Post TBD, where the latest V.F.W. Programs and events will be discussed. Any other post member wishing to attend can call Commander James Egan at 732-341-4905.
Thursday, September 29th is V.F.W. Day. The Veterans of Foreign Wars was established on September 29th, 1899. That is 223 years of fighting for Veterans Rights. You can join the fight for Veterans Rights by becoming a member OF V.F.W. Post 10185, we need your support. To get an application or more information call Quartermaster Dennis Aldridge at 848-480-2728. You will be glad you did.
 

 

We are finished playing for the season. We had quite a few new members this season. I believe they thoroughly enjoyed playing. Hoping they join next season, we would love to get more people interested in playing. Bocce is fun and very social. It is an easy game to learn and we are willing to teach interested new players.
We are having an important meeting on Tuesday, August 9th at 4 pm in Clubhouse 1. Please try to attend. We will be discussing our end of the season lunch/dinner.

 

This month we will be talking about our lunch in September. Volunteers wanted.
We also will talk about the Christmas party in Dec.
It has been a good summer so far. Hope all are well.

It has been brought to the Board of Directors attention, that there was vandalism done in the Dart Room. Most of the darts were destroyed. Unfortunately we cannot continue to replace the darts. If you are interested in playing darts in the future, please provide your own darts to play with. Once you are finished playing, please take them home with you. Thank you in advance for your understanding.
