Happy New Year!
As we enter into 2026, we look forward to another banner year with many of our annual fundraising events to look forward to. We will start preparing for the gift auction which takes place in June, the High Tea at the Mathis House in August, the $500 Visa Gift Card raffle in November, just to name a few.
Holly Twig continues to accept donations of new, soft yarn which is used by Holly Twig members to make baby hats for the newborns to wear home and chemo hats, shawls and lap blankets for the patients in the oncology department. We also accept donations of new or gently used items which we consign to the Second Time Around. Call Marylou for more details or to arrange to donate to us.
Holly Twig meets the second Wednesday of the month at Clubhouse 2 at Holiday City Berkeley at 9:30 a.m. We start with coffee and socializing and often have an interesting program before we get to the business meeting.

The HCB Veterans Committee has decided to honor veterans in our HCB Community with military banners on our light poles throughout the clubhouse property.  If you received a special commendation (Silver Star, Bronze Star, Distinguished Medal of Honor and/or Purple Heart), we would like to invite you to have a banner hung in your name free of charge.  To all others, you can be honored for your service as well, for a nominal fee.  We will have room for 44 veteran banners, but there’s a possibility of more in the future. We estimate the cost to be approximately $50. It’s a great gift idea for a birthday or Father’s Day.
We would like to have these banners on display in time for our Memorial Day Wreath Laying Ceremony on May 26, 2026.   If you would like to participate, we would need the following:
Please drop these items off at the HCB office by March 31, 2026.  We will contact you with the cost after receiving these items.  Any questions, please call 732-382-7158.

The Variety Club is very proud of its members and volunteers! We are happy we can provide this wonderful amenity to our community. Plans are well on their way for our next production, which is planned for Saturday, February 21, 2026. As always, we will continue to plan exciting fundraising events to help offset the costs of productions… so please support us when you can. New members are always welcome!

In December we do not have a regular scheduled meeting. Our members will enjoy a lovely holiday luncheon and the new Board of Directors will be sworn in.
In November we had the drawing for the raffle of the Visa gift card.
The amarayllis bulbs will be distributed early in the month in time to make beautiful gifts. This was another successful fundraising event.

Our next meeting will be held on Monday, January 12th, at 12:00 PM in Club House One. The featured speaker will be a representative from the Holiday City First Aid Squad, who will discuss the importance of Go-Bags, including medical and evacuation protocols. This presentation promises to be informative and beneficial for all members.

Be sure to purchase your tickets for “American Bandstand Revisited Program” and Luncheon, scheduled for February 22nd in Clubhouse One. Tickets are limited and can be purchased on the first and third Tuesdays of the month between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM. Don’t miss out on this enjoyable event!

We invite everyone to attend our monthly meetings and discover what our club has to offer. Each month, we host speakers from various organizations who present information on health, safety, and fun activities that benefit all members. Starting in January, we have an exciting lineup of guest speakers and events, including:

•    January 12th Meeting: Holiday City First Aid Squad & Go-Bags
•    February 9th Meeting: Guest speaker discussing the “Hindenberg”
•    February 22nd: American Bandstand Revisited Program and Luncheon in Clubhouse One, 1pm to 4pm Sunday afternoon

Looking ahead, we will once again hold our Pre-Easter Luncheon in April and our Annual Picnic at John Bartlett County Park in June. These events are great opportunities for socializing with fellow members. Also, as the weather improves in the Spring, we are also organizing several fishing trips, including outings for Opening Day of Trout Season, Saltwater Party Boat Fishing, and Crabbing. These trips are open to everyone, even those who have never fished before. Come join us out on the water, maybe you will even catch a fish!

For additional information on our club or to inquire about future fishing trips, call John Gindhart (907) 671-0460.

Beginning in January, the Veterans Committee will be creating the HCB Veteran’s Task Force.  The focus will be to assist Veterans who reside in Holiday City at Berkeley.  We have a strong connection with Veterans Affairs in Toms River plus a Committee of members who want only to help others.  We will be able to direct Veterans and their families to resources that can help them. Additionally, we could possibly help with some smaller issues, a little more personal in nature.  Our only requirement is that you are part of our Veterans Registry.  Our Task Force team will need to verify your veterans status.

Please take the first step and fill out our Veterans Registry.  In January, we will have a form to request assistance. We want to help.

Holly Twig meets the second Wednesday of each month at Clubhouse 2 at Holiday City Berkeley at 9:30 a.m. Our next meeting is Wednesday, November 12th.

Holly Twig continues to accept donations of new, soft yarn which is used by Holly Twig members to make baby hats for the newborns to wear home and chemo hats, shawls and lap blankets for the patients in the oncology department.

We are still selling raffle chances for the annual drawing for a $500 Visa gift card. The chances are just $5 each and the drawing is in November 19th at 3:00 p.m. It’s always exciting when we notify the winner.
We will be taking orders for beautiful amaryllis bulbs that are coated in wax to look like festive holiday bulbs that require no watering. These will be $20 each and must be paid for at the time of the order. They can be picked up from the member you ordered from early in December.
  • Construction at the hospital continues, the following changes are still in effect:
  • Vehicle access to the hospital campus from Hospital Drive will be closed. All vehicle traffic will be redirected to the hospital’s Route 37 West entrance, located by Riverwood Plaza.
  • The Main Entrance Lobby will be accessible 5 am – 8 pm, 7 days a week, but only open to pedestrian traffic (those walking from 9 Hospital Drive or the bus stop).
  • Outpatient Lobby hours will expand to 5 am – 8 pm, 7 days a week.
  • Visitors or patients picking up or dropping off will need to use the Outpatient Lobby for entry and exit.
  • There are no changes to parking for patients and visitors – please continue to use our new Visitor Parking Garage.
